Hello! I’m Ella Gutman
I graduated the Department of Ceramic and Glass Design at
the Bezalel Academy. During my studies I specializes in pottery, chemistry of ceramic, design, installation art and mix media. In 2017 I won the "Andy Prize 2.0" laureate for excellence in the field of ceramic design. My works have been exhibited around the world, including Milan design week 2021.
In addition to ceramic I also studied education and got a teacher certificate from the Hebrew University. I love teaching pottery and have been lucky to gain experience with all kind of age groups; from young kids to elder people, and also with different levels; from introducing the magic of pottery to total beginners, or getting deep in the mud with professional ceramists.

Ceramic for me is a meditation. The place where i know I will always find my-self. I draw inspiration from three main sources - the natural world, the human psychology and the material itself. Sometimes the clay rise under my hand and dictate a shape, and i just need to follow. Other times it is the physical atmosphere, the human and psychological state of affairs that guides me towards a more thoughtful and measured encounter with the clay. Anyway my craft is always full of light and colors, it is functional and decorative and it is - of course - just a reflection of myself.

Walking in the depths of my memory, I was captivated by the magic of the wondrous clay, which changes its form to the touch of water, fire and hand. Working on the potter's wheel I find peace of mind, a balance that exists in a person that found a place in the world. The slow spin silently connects me to a deep place where I am like a child with great powers. But upon planning and designing a piece, things get more calculated, sharpening my aspiration to connect my personal story to a social statement about a universal truth."
